One of our favorite destination’s in Europe, Greece, is now welcoming American travelers. Great news for those itching for their Europe & Mediterranean fix. But should you book your tickets for June / July or not?
I am a travel agent and my business has had 0 credit for over a year since I only sell international travel. So I am really hoping Europe opens up soon for me to begin making money. But, having said that, I would still advice people to not rush just yet. Keep in mind that these countries have not yet reached herd immunity and there could be another wave which could demand a lock down. If you are vaccinated, then the virus is not that threatening to you, but imagine being all excited to explore international shores and in the middle of your holiday you are locked up in your hotel room due to a sudden lockdown!
I used to take at least 3 international trips a year and now it’s been too long before I wish I could be on a plane to Europe. However, I would like to wait & watch. I know the Britons would flood the Greek islands come July and then I want to see how Greece handles and reacts to this sudden influx during COVID.

Even in pre COVID years, our favorite time to visit Greece used to be September. We love shoulder seasons in any destination. Because of the coastline, Greece has a very short shoulder season, which is beginning of September when the weather is very good and not too hot, the sea is still warm and the restaurants and nightlife still open on the islands. There, we have let out the SECRET! Late May is also good, but the water temperature is still quite cold! I have been to Greece in different seasons and we love early September. This year will be especially good as the cruise crowds will not be docking at the islands, which will be a sheer bliss!
If you are looking at meeting interesting locals, know more about the Greek philosophy from a professor, learn how to cook from a local, visit charming villages and if you are lucky gatecrash a wedding too! Our clients have done that in the past and they think they got lucky, but actually we do a lot of spadework for that! Experience a new way of travel with like-minded people.
